Why Play FlingGolf Hilton Head at Old South?
FlingGolf combines the fun of golf with the energy of sports like lacrosse or baseball. Instead of using multiple clubs, players use a single FlingStick to hurl the golf ball down the fairway and into the hole. It can be played right alongside traditional golfers—no course modifications needed!
How to Play FlingGolf
How to Play:
- Tee Off: Stand behind the tee markers and use the FlingStick to fling the ball down the fairway. You can take a running start, similar to a bowling approach, to add momentum to your shot.
- Advancing the Ball: Continue flinging the ball from where it lands, aiming to reach the green efficiently. Various techniques, such as overhand throws like in lacrosse or sidearm like in baseball, can be employed to navigate the course.
- On the Green: Once on the green, position the ball alongside the striker pad on the FlingStick head. Use a putting or striking motion to putt the ball toward the hole.
Key Differences from Golf:
- Only one piece of equipment: the FlingStick
- No swinging or clubs needed
- More forgiving and less technical than traditional golf
- Faster pace of play

The Story Behind FlingGolf
FlingGolf was invented by Alex Van Alen, who was inspired to create a more dynamic and accessible way to play golf.
Growing up in Chester County, Pennsylvania, Alex and his brothers would often experiment with various sports, including using lacrosse sticks to hurl golf balls across their family farm. This childhood pastime planted the seeds for what would eventually become FlingGolf.
Years later, combining elements from lacrosse and jai alai, Alex developed the FlingStick—a single piece of equipment that allows players to throw a golf ball with precision and ease. His goal was to create a sport that could be played seamlessly on existing golf courses, making the game more approachable for newcomers while still challenging for seasoned golfers.
The sport gained national attention after Alex appeared on Shark Tank, and it’s been growing rapidly ever since.
