Our Commitment to Sustainable Golf
At Old South Golf Links, sustainable golf isn’t just a goal—it’s how we protect the Lowcountry’s natural beauty for generations to come. We believe that great golf and environmental responsibility go hand in hand. As stewards of the Lowcountry’s natural beauty, we are dedicated to sustainable course management, wildlife preservation, and eco-friendly practices that protect the land for future generations. Our commitment to sustainability has earned us the prestigious GEO certification, making us a leader in responsible golf course operations.
GEO Certified – Global Standard for Sustainability
We believe the game we love should protect the land we play on. That’s why we’re proud to be GEO Certified, a prestigious and globally respected symbol of environmental and social responsibility in golf course operations.
This distinction places us in exceptional company—not only among the world’s most forward-thinking golf courses, but also alongside high-profile, GEO Certified tournaments like the RBC Heritage, AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, WM Phoenix Open, and the LPGA Dow Championship. These events are redefining what it means to host a world-class golf experience with purpose.

And while only a select number of U.S. courses currently hold this certification, we’re honored to be part of a growing and determined community of clubs committed to sustainability. More and more courses across the country are joining programs like OnCourse, taking real steps to better steward natural resources, support local communities, and reduce their environmental impact.

The Four Pillars of GEO Certification at Old South Golf Links
At Old South Golf Links, our commitment to sustainability goes beyond turf care—it’s woven into every blade of grass, every drop of water, and every choice we make. As a GEO Certified golf course, we are proud to align with four foundational pillars that define modern sustainable golf: Nature, Resources, Community, and Climate Action.
We protect native habitats, reduce chemical use, and support biodiversity throughout our course. Our resource-saving efforts include water-efficient irrigation, energy-conscious equipment, and waste reduction. As a community hub, we promote inclusive access to golf, support local jobs, and partner with schools and nonprofits. And with a focus on climate action, we cut emissions, plant trees, and track our progress. Sustainability isn’t a trend here—it’s a commitment to the game, the land, and future generations.
Our journey toward sustainability is guided by pride in our Lowcountry home, a deep respect for the game’s future, and a humble acknowledgment that protecting the land is an ongoing commitment. We’re proud to be a part of this movement—leading by example, and learning every day.
